The monument commemorates the two heroines Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon. The commemoration is related to the war against Burma in 1785 when the island ruler died and he was the husband of Thao Thep Kasattri. They hid the news so as not to spoil the morale of the soldiers and they organized defense against the Burmese invasion. After a month-long siege, the invaders exhausted their energies and supplies and retreated.
