Cape Town is a city in South Africa, the capital of the Cape Colony (1652-1910) and the Cape Province (1910-1994). It is currently the provincial capital of the Western Cape. Since 1910, Cape Town is also the country's parliamentary capital alongside Pretoria (administrative capital) and Bloemfontein (judicial capital). The city of Cape Town, founded in 1652, is considered the mother city of South Africa. The southernmost city of the African continent, it is established on the shores of Table Bay and is surmounted by the Table Mountain topped by two peaks named Lion's Head and Devil's Peak. The city was baptized in reference to the Cape of Good Hope located more than 47 km south of its historic center. The historic city of Cape Town is the City Bowl which formed with several suburbs the City of Greater Cape Town in 1913.
